Applicant(s) who previously applied, do not need to re-apply.This position is located within the Supply Chain Management, Transportation Section at the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) in Redding, CA. The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for driving various vehicles while transporting patients, employees, cargo and mail to different destinations such as various (VANCHCS) facilities, other medical centers and private residences.
Requirements:
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work of the position requires long periods of driving, lifting and normal dexterity. Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of patients. Must be able to help non-ambulatory patients from vehicles, wheelchairs or gurneys. Such lifting may require considerable physical exertion, since some patients are debilitated or paralyzed. Patients must be moved correctly while using proper body mechanics to prevent injury. Moderate physical effort is required in handling objects weighing up to 30 pounds and occasional handling of objects weighing over 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo.WORK CONDITIONS: The person in this position is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic, weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading or unloading vehicles. May be required to clean potentially infectious spilled bodily fluids such as blood, urine, vomit and feces from vehicle and equipment. Training to be provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
