Description:

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

Requirements:

Ability to do the work of a Tree Worker Leader (MVO) without more than normal supervision (Screen out): Work history shows experience that demonstrates ability to perform Tree Worker duties under normal supervision. This experience includes: performing tree hazard identification, tree climbing, tree pruning, tree hazard reduction or tree removal. Install rigging systems while tree climbing; and falling a variety of trees to predetermined direction. Work history shows experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, graders, loaders, rollers, 33,000-pound GVW 60-foot Aerial Boom Truck, and Cat 924 Log Loader/Skidder. Some snowplow operator experience.

Ability to Lead (Screen out)
Work history demonstrates ability to lead by doing the following:
- Passes on to other workers the instructions received from supervisor and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group.
- Works along with other workers and sets the pace.
- Demonstrates proper work methods.
- Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
- Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work.
- Maintains a current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders).
- Ensures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy.
- Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
- Urges or advises other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines.
- Within the parameters of knowledge, training, experience and resources, assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (for example, assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly).
- Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays.
- Answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning, additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
- Actively participates in Park risk management programs, including safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and environmental protection efforts.
- Exercises independent judgment in effectively recommending to supervisor the hiring, assigning, furloughing, disciplining and rewarding of staff.
