Requirements:

Skills and Knowledge: Must be a journeyman level plumber. Must be able to perform all phases of work related to plumbing, water and sewage systems. Must be able to install and repair natural gas systems. Must have knowledge of how various supply disposal and utility systems are installed and operate. Must have the ability to plan and lay out the installation and modification of various systems and equipment including angles, arcs, and circles; to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, and use shop mathematics. Must have skill in the use of any of the accepted trade methods and techniques and in the use of tools and equipment of the plumbing trade. Must be able to install, troubleshoot and repair various systems. Must be maintain a welding certificate. Must possess or be able to obtain applicable government operator permits. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibility: After work is assigned, uses personal knowledge to select tools, decide on the method and technique to use, and completes the work with a minimum of supervision. Selects materials and obtains replacement parts by comparison with the part to be replaced or by reference to supply lists and catalogs. Tests the unit or system on completion of the work to ensure equipment is repaired according to requirements.

Physical Effort: May work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. May work in hard to reach or confined areas; required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lift, carry and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. May be required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather. May make repairs in areas where foul odoriferous fumes are present. Exposed to possibility of bone fractures, cuts, scrapes, burns, and infections.
