In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Conducting prehistoric and historical archaeological research. Utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical information systems (GIS) based software systems to map exact archaeological boundaries and record archaeological site information characteristics. Conducting cultural resource investigations in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) to include reviewing and writing technical reports. Consulting and collaborating with federal agencies, state agencies, and federally recognized Native American Tribes on archeological projects. Preparing and reviewing reports that document presence of cultural resources, that determine the effects of proposed actions related to construction, environmental restoration, or mitigation projects.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.

Physical Demands: Office work is sedentary in nature. Travel may be required to review/complete field work. Field visits may require physical exertion, standing or walking over uneven terrain, bending, crouching, use of hand tools, and lifting.

Work Environment: Office work is completed in a well ventilated and heated office setting. Field work may require travel and involve additional safety requirements, adverse weather conditions, and other outdoor hazards.
