Description:

About the Position: Serves as an Assistant Professor (Command Language Program Manager Course Instructor) for Continuing Education, Language, Regional Expertise and Culture (LREC) located in Seaside, CA. The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) offers foreign language instruction in more than 13 languages on a schedule that extends throughout the year. Courses are taught six hours per day, five days a week, with the exception of federal holidays and training holidays.

This position is a TERM time limited position tenure track. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 12 months 1 day, and may be extended upon mission, funding and management discretion.
Applicants who do not possess a current, valid U.S. work authorization may not be appointed for 12 months, 1 day, but will receive an appointment aligned to their work authorization status, to include those who may only be appointed for less than one year, who will receive a TEMPORARY Tenure 0 appointment. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant work experience and education level (degree and year awarded); official transcripts/foreign transcript evaluation will be requested upon selection.
Must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Basic Requirement:

Ph.D.

OR

Master's degree with a major or minor in Curriculum and Instruction, Program Management, Foreign Language Teaching/Education, Educational Technology, Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, Instruction, Instructional Design, or Educational Technology.

OR

Master's degree other than above and one year of directly related work.

OR

Bachelor's degree and two years of directly related work.

DIRECTLY RELATED WORK is defined as developing and/or tailoring curriculum; teaching adult learners face to face and/or facilitating instruction via virtual platforms, evaluating programs, as well as developing/implementing recommendations to improve programs and performance, training management and scheduling, spanning from design to delivery, and communicating with military units on course requirements or course registration to support educational processes.

LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 in speaking. The proficiency levels are defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org. Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply after 6 months. Upon subsequent selection, retesting is allowed only once. If Selected, applicant must pass the English Language proficiency test.
