About the Position: Serve as a Station Chief in charge of the daily tactical assignments of a shift of firefighters.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) directing the activity of a fire crew; 2) utilizing fire science knowledge to suppress fires; 3) responding to emergency incidents such as hazardous material incidents and technical rescue operations; 4) driving and positioning apparatus such as aerial trucks, structural pumpers, water tenders, wild land apparatus, crash rescue vehicles, or ambulances in response to emergency incidents; 5) performing life support functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
In additional to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I and HAZMAT Incident Commander certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) AND State or National Registry EMT and CPR certification in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
