Description:

The ideal candidate will have experience working with Tribal Governments in the development or review of Tribal Hazard Mitigation Plans and providing technical assistance to tribal governments related to the compliance of Hazard Mitigation Plans against regulatory and program guidance.

Basic Requirements

  1. Degree: community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance.
Note: Applicants with degrees in related fields, such as those listed above, who do not have the 12 semester hours of specified course work must have had at least 1 year of work experience in community planning acquired under the supervision and guidance of a community planner.

or

  1. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in one of the above disciplines, or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the above disciplines of which at least 12 semester hours were in the planning process, and socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the basic requirements listed above, you must meet the following specialized experience requirement(s) to be considered for the position:

To qualify for this Community Planner position at the IC-09 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-07 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  1. Assisting with administering and evaluating Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs;
  2. Researching data concerning Hazard Mitigation or Community Planning; and
  3. Preparing written reports, instructions, or briefings.

OR

master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.B. or J.D.

OR

Combination of education and experience.

To qualify for this Community Planner position at the IC-11 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-09 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  1. Providing guidance to stakeholders regarding Hazard Mitigation programs or Community Planning;
  2. Applying laws, regulations and policies to support the development of hazard mitigation programs; and
  3. Preparing written recommendations to leadership regarding process improvement practices.

OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or

LL.M.
