This vacancy is for a GS-1801-13, Senior Marine Inspector Training Officer located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR LOS ANGELES/LONG BEACH INSPECTIONS DIVISION, San Pedro, CA.

Requirements:

To qualify at the GS- 13 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Conducting vessel safety regulation training
  • Developing a personnel training program for a marine investigation program
  • Developing vessel safety training and qualification programs
  • Conducting marine inspections on a variety of vessels (e.g., passenger, tank, commercial, tankship, tank barge, chemical ships including foreign vessels, towing and fishing)
  • Determining compliance with laws, regulations, and applicable standards, verifying the existence of proper vessel documentation and the certification and safe and proper operating order of systems and machinery and the soundness and acceptable parameters of vessel structures and hulls
  • Identifying hazardous conditions and violations and prescribing corrective measures
  • Writing analytical reports

NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
