This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: You must possess a California class "B" Commercial Driver License (CDL) to operate single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 pounds, a three­axle vehicle weighing over 6,000 pounds gross, and any bus (except a trailer bus). May also tow under a class "B" CDL, a single vehicle with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less, and any class "C" vehicle. Incumbent may also operate class "C" vehicles that include any two-axle vehicles with a GVWR of less than 26,001 pounds, any three-axle vehicles weighing less than 6,000 pounds gross."


This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision performing duties such as:
  • Manipulating large vehicles with heavy loads, including starting, stopping, backing and driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions.
  • Making judgments concerning loading, arranging cargo, clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and distance to maintain from preceding vehicles.
  • Recognizing hazardous road and traffic conditions, and the judgement to adjust driving methods to the practices of surrounding traffic and select alternate routes to avoid potential problems.
  • Reading and understanding road maps and other locator documents and determine the shortest and safest route for both short and long runs.
