Description:

You will serve as a ELECTRICAL FIRE ALARM MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the hiring freeze. Although we are moving forward with the consideration of candidates, we will not make a selection for this vacancy announcement unless and until the position is no longer subject to the hiring freeze.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to perform common tasks includingg 1) Analyzing a variety of interrelated meter indications to detect abnormal operating conditions and make necessary corrections by adjusting controls; 2) Repairing, aligning, modifying, installing, and maintaining a variety of commercial alarm systems (i.e. Firetek, Notifier, Edwards, Control Instrument, Pyrotonics, Gamewell, and Radionic). I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
