Description:

Joining the Secret Service, Office of Field Operations, San Francisco Field Office will allow you to to plan, conduct, and coordinate complex analytical assignments and research projects in support of diverse investigations to include financial crimes, cybercrime, and protective intelligence activities.

Requirements:

To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.

You qualify for the GS-07 level (starting salary $62,456) if you possess one of the following:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level performing duties such as:

  • Performing basic administrative support using databases, software or systems to maintain and/or organizes investigative case data.
  • Assisting in gathering various types of data from a variety of sources to develop routine reports.
  • Assisting in maintaining and developing profiles used in criminal investigations.
OR
A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. OR
One full year of graduate level education at an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position;

OR
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.


You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $76,397) if you possess one of the following:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing duties such as:

  • Assisting in determining leads for further research and analysis in criminal investigations.
  • Conducting research and database searches from a variety of sources.
  • Assisting with processing and evaluating analytical assignments and/or research projects in support of criminal investigations.

OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL. B or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50, "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
