You will serve as a MODEL MAKER in the FACILITY & PLANT MAINTENANCE DIVISION, FACILITY & INFASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, AND MANUFACTURING AND ENGINES PROGRAM of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.The incumbent will support the program by constructing aircraft and shipboard experimental equipment to be used in electronic aircraft and surface craft modernization programs.
The duty location of this position is Naval Air Station, San Diego, CA.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision: 1 ) Planning, constructing and assembling complete models working from verbal instruction, rough sketches, and tentative blueprints; 2) Identifying design flaws and suggesting corrective measures and possible alternative methods of fabrication; 3) Creating Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM) images of models and assembling per design specifications; 4) Installing, testing, and modifying experimental devices, or engineering tests and experiments; 5) Planning, programming, and operating various Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment/machines for "Rapid Response" ranging from 2- to 5-axis plus including standard equipment such as conventional lathes, mills, grinders, drills, and jig bores; 6) Working with a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics and ceramics; and 7) Developing new procedures or methods to resolve complex machining problems or to accomplish operations more efficiently and economically.
