VA San Diego is hiring a Medical Instrument Technician to work part-time (20 hours per week) in Anesthesiology Service. You will function as a member of the anesthesia care team, and will be under the direct supervision of the Chief of Anesthesiology and the Chief Anesthesiology Technician.Requirements:
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.Basic Requirements :
- United States Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.
- English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA.
Grade Determinations:
-   GS-8: - At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (KSAs) related to the duties of this position. AND
-  In addition, you must also demonstrate the following KSAs (NOTE: experience must be documented on your resume in order to receive credit): - Knowledge of the correct use of invasive patient monitoring equipment specific to anesthesiology.
- Knowledge of basic electrocardiography (EKG).
- Skill and ability to troubleshoot equipment, often while the patient is anesthetized.
- Skill and ability to maintain sterility during procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of arterial pressure line wave forms including the ability to recognize and distinguish normal from abnormal, artifact from abnormality, and forewarn the physician or anesthetist of an impending life-threatening situation.
- Knowledge of anesthesiology supplies, medications, and equipment appropriate to more difficult anesthetic procedures such as those found in inpatient settings with more acutely ill patients.
 
 
Physical Requirements: The work requires long hours of continuous activity and considerable manual dexterity to assemble and set up equipment, instruments and supplies. Frequent walking, standing, stretching, and bending are required on a regular recurring basis. Incumbent will be required to push and pull moderately heavy objects, i.e. anesthesia machines, gurneys, and equipment. Ability to function under pressure and handle a fast-paced clinical environment is required.
