About the Position: You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic with the USACE Kansas City District, Operations Division. Operations Division consists of a highly technical workforce which manages, directs and coordinates administrative services and difficult engineering work in connection with operations and maintenance, navigation, flood risk management, hydropower, environmental stewardship, recreation and water quality and supply, in the heart of the Midwestern part of the United States.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Candidate must have the ability to perform common of a Maintenance Mechanic tasks such as: use and operate common hand and power tools, equipment, and/or measuring devices of the carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical trades, and have the ability to detect simple deficiencies and perform simple preventive maintenance tasks.I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Work requires considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Physical effort required to reach, bend, turn or move hands, arms, feet and legs to operate and maneuver motor vehicles and engineering equipment. Strain may be caused by constant vibration of equipment operated. Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40-50 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather. Exposed to constant noise, rotating machinery, dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, oils and fumes. Subject to possibility of injury from falls, electrical shock, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. Subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, and infections. May be exposed to poisonous insects, reptiles, and plants. Must follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as face shield, gloves, respirators and protective clothing. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective clothing. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty. e cause for a determination that the incumbent has failed to meet the conditions necessary for continued employment in this position.
