About the position: Serves as an Associate Professor (Curriculum Specialist) in the Curriculum Support Division under the Directorate of Educational Technology & Development (ETD) at the Presidio of Monterey. The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) offers foreign language instruction in more than 13 languages on a schedule that extends throughout the year. All language program curricula including core instructional materials are developed in-house.Requirements:
Who May Apply: US Citizens and Non-US Citizens with valid US Work Authorization.This position is a TERM time limited position tenure track. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 12 months, 1 day, and may be extended upon mission, funding and management discretion. Applicants who do not possess a current, valid U.S. work authorization may not be appointed for 12 months, 1 day, but will receive an appointment aligned to their work authorization status, to include those who may only be appointed for less than one year, who will receive a TEMPORARY Tenure 0 appointment. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant work experience and education level (degree and year awarded); official transcripts/foreign transcript evaluation will be requested upon selection. Must be able to speak, read and write in one additional language fluently. Preferred languages: Russian, Chinese, Korean, Persian-Farsi, Arabic, Spanish, or French. Must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently. Associate Professor:
Ph.D. or Master's degree with a major or minor in second language acquisition, foreign language education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), applied linguistics, curriculum and instruction for foreign language education, or related field. (NOTE: Attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).
AND
At least four years of relevant professional expertise or experience and demonstrate significant contributions to a program or the field in two or more of the seven following core areas: teaching, curriculum development, faculty development, testing, program management, research and evaluation,
academic program support.

LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 3 in speaking. The minimum proficiency for one additional language to be taught is a Level 2 in speaking. The proficiency levels are defined by the Inter-agency Language Round table (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org. Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply against an open vacancy announcement after 6 months if they wish to be considered again. If selected again, retesting is allowed only once.
You must submit a 300-word HANDWRITTEN essay in one additional language. Preferred Languages: Russian, Chinese, Korean, Persian-Farsi, Arabic, Spanish, or French. You must also include a 300-word HANDWRITTEN English translation of the essay. Essay topic is how your background, education and training has prepared you for the language curriculum specialist position . NOTE: Typed essays are NOT acceptable. The essay is not used to evaluate work experience, only for the purpose of evaluating the language writing proficiency.
